To Hale and Back
(The conclusion to the Hale Series)
by Marie James
Genre: Erotic Romance
Release Date – October 26th
While this closely knit group of six tries to settle into normal; drugs, money, and vengeance leave one man dead and another in jail for a wide range of crimes he did not commit.
Friendships and bonds are tested past the breaking point, allegiances are questioned, and relationships threaten to crumble. From the point of view of all six characters we've come to love, perspective is offered on the hell that they are all experiencing, the love they've all found, and the sexy, fairytale lives they all wish to get back to.
I shake my head clear of those thoughts as I pull into and park in the subterranean garage. I all but jump out of the SUV and sprint to the elevator bank, in a mad rush to get to my penthouse. I’m chastising myself for not grabbing a bottle of wine or a late lunch for us as I unlock the door to the large apartment.
I empty my pockets into the basket on the front entry table. I smile to myself because I know Alexa hates the damn thing. I may actually move it this weekend. Anything to make her happy. I frown as I step further into the apartment and see that the living room and kitchen are empty. I should’ve called her first before just assuming she wouldn’t find something to do, knowing I’d be at work again until late.
I kick off my shoes and scoop them up as I make my way to the bedroom. The door is shut which is odd, but I don’t falter in my steps until I hear a man’s voice, “Fuck, just like that! Suck it deep.”
My hand hesitates on the doorknob, because I know when I swing it open my life is going to change. I teeter on the edge of indecision; my broken heart throbbing painfully in my chest. “I’m close, bitch.” I hear the masculine voice say.
Two things happen at the moment. I’m suddenly angry that Alexa is doing this to me when she thinks I’m at work, but alternately I’m pissed at this man for talking to my woman like that.
Hatred over the cheating wins out and I swing the door wide. My shoes tumble from my hands just as “What the fuck, Alexa,” boils out of my mouth.
She squeaks loudly and tries to pull the sheets over her but it’s too late. She’s already been caught.

It seems all of our lives are absolutely perfect.
I never would have let the thought cross my mind had I known that thinking it was only inviting the worst possible demons in our lives. Demons that would destroy us and possibly alter our lives in a way that we'd never fully recover from.
The final installment of the Hale Series sees these six friends trying to start their happily ever afters. After the hell they have all gone through – both collectively and individually, between shootings and kidnappings – they most definitely deserve it. But you know what they say, it's always darkest before the dawn, and as they will soon learn, there are still shadows lurking around the corner ready to take over. In what might be their greatest challenge yet, and told from the POV's of all six friends – relationships will be tested, friendships will be pushed to their limits, and their lives may never be the same again.
My world fucking stops. The question I never thought I'd want to hear. The question I was certain I would never hear....
The question, at this point in time, I don't have an answer to.
I was a latecomer to this series, I had only read book three up until this book – so when I saw that this was gonna be told from all six of the main characters I jumped on it. I fell in love with each of these people for very different reasons in 'Hot as Hale' and was completely stoked to finally get in the heads of ALL of the characters – something I missed out on by not reading the first two books.... YET. I was NOT disappointed and fell even harder, there really is no way to truly understand a character more than when you get their POV. Garrett and Alexa took me totally by surprise in the dirtiest way possible, which I LOVED, but they also pissed me off with their stubbornness. Ian was another fun and filthy surprise and I loved getting to know Lorali a bit better. Kaleb and Josie I already knew pretty well, but this just reminded me why I loved them so much together. Another thing that made this one different from the previous books was the conflict. Up until now, the trouble that has landed on their doorsteps has been pretty brutal and violent, and while this one wasn't quite like that, it tested them in ways they never had been before and it was almost worse. And it came out of nowhere – I was completely blindsided. With as many books as I read on the regular, the fact that I can still be surprised is refreshing and welcomed. We go from sex, sex, and more smokin hot sex, sweetness and happily in loves, with lots of laughs along the way, to HOLY SHIT!! What now?! These people are all so amazing together, they are their own little family and clearly love each other, are devoted to each other and all of the sudden I'm worried about their futures as a group. Overnight their dynamic is changed, and though some are affected more than others – it hits them all is one way or another. It certainly had me flipping through the pages dying to see what would happen next and hoping they could find their way back. I loved every damn minute of it even as I was pulling my hair out and screaming at some to pull their heads outta their asses while my heart bled for others. The book was split down the middle with the feelings it draws outta you. The first half was a lot of sex, and I mean ALOT, it was almost too much but considering it was told by all six characters, you have the sex lives of three distinctly different couples so it was manageable. If all that sex was going on with just one couple I probably would have started skimming. The second half of the book was nothing but tension. However, Marie James did do a fantastic job of soothing my soul in the end and left me with a big ass smile on my face. If you haven't picked up any of the books in this series yet, do so now. Seriously, these people will leave their marks for many different reasons and their journey from start to finish will keep you on the edge of your seat, blushing and swooning like a loon, and laughing your ass off. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more from this author in the future and cannot wait to see what she brings us next.
So much has happened over the last ten months...
So much tragedy has also tried to tear up apart...
enough to tear any small group apart and somehow we managed to battle through and come out mostly unscathed.

Marie James, full-time working mother of two boys and wife of 11 years. I've spent almost my entire lifetime living in central Texas, with only short stays in South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. I've always wanted to write novels and just recently had the gumption to sit down and start one. My passions include reading everything under the sun and sewing. I even listen to audio books while sewing. To Hale and Back is the final book in the Hale Series.
I have several other story lines worked out for other books once this series is complete. Reading and writing is my happy place.
