4- It's all about Family -Stars

That's right, Bentley, Mr. Football star. You made me feel like shit, and why? It wasn't like I did anything to you; it anything, I tried to stay clear of you. I couldn't date because of you. I'd rather be alone than have someone tear me to shreds all over again.”

~In book one they see each other for the first time since high school when she returns home to her grandparents ranch for the summer. Bentley used to be a massive jerk to Haley making her school life hell, she has a hard time forgiving him. He gave up his dreams to come home when his family needed him, she is struggling alone in the city. They get to know each other as adults and slowly learn to let someone in while they help heal one another and fall in love... before Bentley pulls the asshat move of the century and leaves us all hanging.

~In book two Bentley is back with a vengeance and determined to get back the only woman who has ever held his heart. Haley won't make it easy for him- she as always suffered from abandonment issues, with good reason, and her trust in him is completely obliterated. But Bentley is persistent and will stop at nothing to put his family back together.

~and book three was pretty much an extended epilogue as we join them for their wedding.

God, Hales you take my breath away. Never have I ever felt this connection with anyone.”

I have some pretty mixed emotions about this series; there were some aspects I loved, and some that I didn't. The first book screamed insta-love which generally drives me crazy, and some parts seemed a bit rushed (like their suddenly making out like hormonal teenagers-that came out of nowhere. To me at least.), but on the plus side – these two really seemed to connect and helped each other in ways no one else had before. They were exactly what the other needed, just when they needed it. Then book two rolled around and Haley became a completely different woman, which I understood, but her extreme stubborn streak and pigheadedness got to be a little too much for me and borderline ridiculous. I got that Bentley screwed up and he needed to prove himself, but no matter what the guy did she just shut him out. I actually found myself feeling more for him than her at that point-she was hurting him, plain and simple. But I have to hand it to the guy, he never completely gives up even when others would have, and Haley does eventually pull her head outta her ass and sees what she is surrounded with. The last book is the only one I have ZERO complaints about. It was sweet, beautiful, and a little sexy. The part that really grabbed me in this series wasn't necessarily the romance though, it was the feeling of family and learning how to forgive. Haley really had no idea the support she had, or she just wouldn't see it, being surrounded by so many people who loved and supported one another through everything... they were all just amazing. That part really was a thing of beauty for me. In the end, I may not have been in love with every single part of these stories but I still enjoyed them. They were quick, easy reads - even if I got frustrated at times – and they were built on love of all kinds and a family brought together by that love.

Every part of me wants him, needs him, and craves him. Every time I look into his eyes, I fall in love all over again. If he only knew the beating of his heart is my home

Message from Shawnte:

I’m so excited to have chosen this charity, to work with. $1 from every book sold in 2015 will go towards Be Brave Ranch by Ray Labonte and family. On the behalf of Be Brave Ranch and myself, thank you. The donation that you made today will make a difference in these children’s lives. (As of to date, this is the only place of its kind.)

Little Warriors Be Brave Ranch

Little Warriors is a national, charitable organization in Canada that is committed to the awareness, prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. The Little Warriors Be Brave Ranch by Ray LaBonte and Family is a treatment centre focused solely to help children who have been sexually abused, as well as their families. The Be Brave Ranch program offers these children a place to heal and increase their chances of growing into healthy adults, and supports both the child and their families in their own environment for a full year.

The Be Brave Ranch offers an evidence-based treatment program that combines multiple proven therapies for children ages 8-12. It starts with an initial 20-day period at the Be Brave Ranch, during which they form close relationships with the 7 other members of their peer-group (“cohort”). This is followed by long-term therapy and support for the child and their family lasting a full year. During this extended period, children come back to the Be Brave Ranch for 3 other 7-day periods for further therapy and to reconnect in person with their cohort.

During the one-year program there is more than 200 hours of diverse therapy for children and their families run by clinical professionals, and offering a unique program including:

·       Intensive trauma focused-cognitive behavioural therapy (TF-CBT)
·       Art therapy
·       Play therapy
·       Music therapy
·       Recreational activities
·       Peer group (cohort) support

Therapy is provided in an enriched “camp-like” environment in which children also have lots of fun! Being in cohorts helps each child recognize they are not alone, and gives them peers who have experienced similar traumas. The children form long-term relationships with deep bonds, and these also help the children heal.

Child abuse affects the whole family; thus, our program also incorporates family-centered therapy. Children come to the Be Brave Ranch with a parent or caregiver whenever possible. The Be Brave Ranch provides a safe environment for the child and their family to heal.
