4- Frustrating, Broken & Clearly Damaged -Stars
~this review may contain minor spoilers~

destiny's a fickle mistress. She leads you by the nose down one path and then, just when you think you have it all figured out, she throws you a sharp curve, and you're left wondering and unprepared for what's around the next corner.

When Aedyn Cumberland left his small hometown of Granger behind after he lost his mother to cancer and was left brokenhearted and humiliated by his high school crush, he vowed to never return. Moving forward and making a life for himself was the goal and he did a damn good job of it; he now owns and runs a very successful marketing company and has women falling at his feet. But destiny has other plans for him when the death of his drunk of a father sends him back home for the funeral and to put dear old dads affairs in order. The last thing he needed was to run into his old crush- Lauren Mitchell, the woman who crushed his heart all those years ago. And certainly the last thing he was expecting was to have all the old feeling he had for her some rushing back the minute he sees her again. The chemistry between them is off-the-charts the charts and this time he knows she feels it too. There is just one problem-she is in a relationship and Aedyn is not about to have his heart crushed for the second time by the same woman so he is determined to keep his distance and get the hell outta town as soon as possible.... until it becomes clear that maybe Lauren's relationship isn't quite as healthy as it would appear to be and all he wants is to protect her and keep her safe, but can he protect himself as well?

Seeing her had stirred up those feelings and it pissed me off. I wasn't that love stricken schoolboy anymore. I was a successful businessman, sought out by the ladies and yet... yet... that woman could still turn me into a puddle on the floor.

This book was told a bit differently than other romances and I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. For starters, our main characters spend the majority of the book with other people-they don't even hook up til towards the end. I get why, the story had to progress at the rate that it did to truly understand the characters-it just made it hard to really feel the connection between the two of them. Case in point ~ the opening chapters. They really painted Aedyn in a not so pretty light, but I guess that was the point; he is not the same geeky boy who left his small town world behind all those years ago. And Lauren really played the victim character to a tee; she was clearly suffering in her current relationship but blamed herself, she is a far cry from the girl Aedyn once knew but that is what happens when your in the kind of relationship she's in-Chip played her like a finely tuned instrument. With all my complaints so far, you may be wondering why I still gave the book 4 stars? Because I still enjoyed the hell out of it. The author did a smashing job of drawing me in and making me care about what happens to these two, no matter how frustrated they had me. There was plenty of drama, lots of angst, screaming and tears, smokin' hott sex-even if it wasn't always with who I wanted, and a connection you hoped like hell they would finally take to the next level. But be prepared-there is one helluva cliffhanger, one I was not prepared for, one that had me ready to toss my kindle. In the end, I would still recommend this to those who don't mind a slow-burn romance with some meat and grit to it and I will be climbing the walls waiting for the next book.

I still want you, Lauren, and I don't mean just for sex. You're mine tonight. I've never stopped thinking about you. All those years... I've never forgotten. How could I forget this?”
