What If
by Rebecca Donovan
to be Published September 16th 2014

A new novel by the USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Breathing Series . . .
What if you had a second chance to meet someone for the first time?
Cal Logan is shocked to see Nicole Bentley sitting across from him at a coffee shop thousands of miles from their hometown. After all, no one has seen or heard from her since they graduated over a year ago.
Except this girl isn't Nicole.
She looks exactly like Cal's shy childhood crush, but her name is Nyelle Preston and she has no idea who he is. This girl is impulsive and daring, her passion for life infectious. The complete opposite of Nicole. Cal finds himself utterly fascinated-and falling hard. But Nyelle is also extremely secretive. And the closer he comes to finding out what she's hiding, the less he wants to know.
When the secrets from the past and present collide, one thing becomes clear: Nothing is what it seems.

*** 5 STAR REVIEW ***
What If is a beautifully written story that had me pondering all of my life's 'what ifs'. There are just too many to count. This book opened my eyes to see that some 'what ifs' are possible. There is room for do-overs. But it also helped me see that some thing are just meant to be.
The story is written from present to past. In the past, we learn of  inseparable friendships between Cal, Nicole, Rae, and Richelle. Their friendships brought warmth to my heart and made me wish I was a kids again. They had a unique connection that would last a lifetime, or so they thought.
Which brings us to the present. Who is Nyelle? Who is this care free girl that looks just Nicole? The best friend who seemed to have turned her back to those who cared deeply for her all those years ago. These are the questions that Cal and Rae have. Rae wants answers, but as Cal gets to know Nyelle, and falls for her, he doesn't necessarily want the answers. He just wants her.  But the answers and truth always have a way of unraveling.
The storyline was so  masterfully written. I felt deeply for the characters. Its as if I was one of them.  It  filled my heart and spirit up so much that  I was scared the floor was going to fall out on me at any minute. The ending was unexpected, but my feet stayed firmly on the ground. I may have hydroplaned in my tears, though.

Optimism seeps from every pore of my body. I truly believe what’s supposed to happen… will. In that regard, I don’t know how to give up; it’s not part of my biological make-up.
I’m a passionate (and some would say overly enthusiastic) individual. I learn by doing (and have been burned more times than I’d like to admit). But I will always throw my entire self into whatever I do–fail or succeed.
I think this is evident when I write. I leave nothing behind, and spill it all out onto the pages. I give it all to my readers – love it or hate it.
The path I’m on is very often my own. Sometimes I veer off at the sight of something more interesting or captivating and get caught in the vines and thorns in order to experience the beauty and intrigue others often pass by. And I always meet the most interesting people along the way…
