~Synopsis~

At the young age of nineteen, Shayne Andrews thought she had it all. She had the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, and a bright future ahead of her. That is, until one day he just disappeared, leaving a note as his only goodbye. With her heart shattered and broken, Shayne did the only thing she could. She left her small town on the shores of Lake Michigan to start her life over, needing to distance herself from the memories she and Luke had made. At that time, she vowed to herself that she would never return to her hometown again. Seven years later, Shayne realizes that fate is not on her side as she returns home for her aunt’s funeral, bringing back the one secret she swore to protect.

Luke Schavone has regretted every day that he had to leave Shayne behind. Though he didn’t have a choice, his heart still bore the scars from the impact. After five years, Luke returned only to find that Shayne was gone. His best friend was the only lifeline he had to finding her, but Adam wasn’t talking. When the one thing Luke has wanted everyday for the past seven years runs right into him one night, he becomes determined to make sure he doesn’t lose her again.

At first, Shayne is hesitant. She wouldn’t be able to survive losing him again, but the pull toward him is so fierce, she can’t deny herself the chance. With the decision to start over, Luke and Shayne must admit truths and come to terms with the events that forced them apart in the first place. When secrets are revealed and old threats come to pass, will Luke be able to shelter Shayne from the destruction, or will she become lost to him forever?

"Baby, I never thought I would get to taste those sweet, sexy, seriously fuckable lips again."

"Fuckable? I ask, "What happened to us starting over?"

Luke brings his mouth to my ear. "I said I wanted us to start over, and I meant it. Doesn't mean I don't remember everything that happened between us, my beautiful girl. Especially involving those fuckable lips," he whispers, a glint of mischief in his eyes.

"Oh, is all I can get my mouth to say.

"What's the matter baby? Did I kiss you senseless?" Luke asks as he pulls me up into a standing position.

"You so wish, big boy."

~this review may contain minor spoilers~

After two years of being together, I woke up one morning to a note and a single red rose. The note was heartbreaking, telling me how sorry he was that he had to leave. One note, that's what I received. No goodbye, no telling of when he may return, just a standard 'I'm sorry' letter.

~Shayne Andrews fled home, everyone and everything she has ever known, at nineteen years old so she could get away from the memories of the man who left her broken and in an unexpected situation. She loved Luke with all that she had, gave him every last piece of her, and he took off in the middle of the night leaving her nothing but a note; no explanation, no see you soon, just an 'I'm Sorry'. Though she never got over the hurt Luke caused her, or the deep rooted feelings of abandonment, she made a life for herself in Texas, all on her own, vowing to never return to the place that haunts her....til her aunt, the woman who took her in when her mother skipped town, suddenly dies in a car accident. She makes the trip back to her hometown to help her cousin Adam, who was always like a brother to her, lay her aunt to rest and settle her estate. She only plans on being there for a few weeks, to get things taken care of and head back to Texas, once again leaving her vividly heartbreaking memories behind her. She never expects to run into Luke after seven long years of his absence.

I want to scream. I want to slap him across his handsome motherfucking face, but I don't. Instead, I open my eyes and look up into the green orbs of Luciano Schavone. Luke.
The man who nearly destroyed me when he broke my heart as he ripped it clean out of my chest.

~Luke Schavone has spent every day of the last seven years regretting the loss of Shayne and the way he ended things; she may not know this, but he didn't have a choice. Running into her again after so long proves one thing quite clearly; the feelings they have for one another is as strong as ever and the chemistry between them is just as hott. Luke will do whatever it takes to get Shayne to give him a chance to explain, he will not give up and he will never let her get away from him again ~Shayne reluctantly agrees. Though she cannot deny her feelings for Luke, and his reasoning seems sincere, she must tread lightly; she would never survive losing him again. Luke has a long way to go before he can earn back her trust, but they both realize that a love like theirs doesn't come around very often and deserves a second chance. But Luke is keeping things from Shayne, secrets that could destroy everything but are kept in an attempt to protect her from a part of Luke's life that she never saw coming. Will they be able to get back what they once lost and will Luke be able to protect his family?

This body belongs to me it always has. You know how I know that? Because your body, baby, hasn't stopped shaking since you saw me standing here and those pert nipples of yours are so hard, if I ran my tongue over them you would be lost, soaking wet and on the verge of coming within seconds.”

I have always enjoyed a good second chance at love story and a lot of that has to do with the angst that usually comes with it~ I thrive on a good gut-wrenching romance. While this book did have it's fair share of drama and tears, it wasn't as emotionally charged as I expected considering the circumstances; it was more lust driven than anything. Not that that's really a problem, it was just a bit fluffier than I anticipated. However, it was loaded with a ton of fantastic characters and the sexy times were pretty smokin' so I didn't mind too much. The story moved at a good pace, I was never bored and didn't do any skimming, and there was just enough intrigue to keep me biting my nails. All in all, it was a fab debut by Kathy Coopmans; one that I would definitely recommend to romance fans, and a sure fire way to make me want to see what she brings us next.

You are so beautiful. You take my breath away every time I look at you. We have so much time to make up for, and I don't mean just this,” he say, indicating my reclined body with a sweep of his hand.
I mean everything. I want to heal and take away every bit of pain you have. You're everything to me, Shayne. You own me.”
