~this review may contain minor spoilers~

I have to remember I'm a professional and as gorgeous as the good detective may be, this is business and I never mix business with pleasure. I'm sure I'll have to keep telling myself this.

That was crazy intense-from the very beginning, til the bitter end. It was definitely a dark read, with some very disturbing violent elements- there is a reason the Author mentions to 'Read at your own risk', but the risk is worth it. It was a gripping story full of surprises, steam, tons of action and tension and a drool-worthy male lead. Very hard to put down, though I do have some minor complaints, but I'll get to those later.

My eyes immediately travel to her back side and I feel my dick jump. Easy Gabe, this is not a pick up session. You're just getting to know her, try not to dry hump her as soon as you sit down.

Sydney DeCarlo has suffered through a traumatic experience no one should ever have to go through, but she came out the other side a damaged, but stronger woman -a survivor. She has buried it all in her past and would like to keep it there-separate from her and hidden away. Now she makes her living counseling young girls and boys who have suffered through the same experiences she has. When asked by the NYPD to assist on a case where women are washing up in the river, raped and beaten, she is more than willing to help any way she can to stop this monster before he strikes again. She just hopes no one unearths her dark past in the process.

Detective Gabriel Torres feels an unexplainable pull towards Sydney from the moment her meets her. There is just something about her- she's strong, independent, and sexy as hell, but there is a darkness in her eyes he is determined to discover the roots of. He knows getting involved with her while they work together is a bad idea, but he can't seem to get her out of his mind. But when Sydney's past is blown out of the water and their current case starts to take on some eerie similarities to her own experiences, Gabe questions whether or not she should be involved at all. The only thing he knows for sure is he feels this deep unease and need to protect her, though she makes that less than easy for him. Can they catch their killer before he strikes again or will Sydney's worst nightmare come true once more?

I know I want to get to know this woman better, I want to know what it feels like to be buried inside her. To take all of her worries away, if only for a brief time.

This really was an intense story for many different reasons. The flashbacks to Sydney's past was just brutal and the suspense never lets up. My only real complaints were the presence of insta-love (anyone who knows me knows insta-love drives me batshit crazy. Lust I get, instant attraction I'm all for, but insta-love just grates on my nerves). And I have to admit, Sydney kinda drove me insane. I know you have to excuse some things due to her past, but the way she was with Gabe at times was nothing short of just being a plain old bitch, her reactions to some situations was just over the top. And her decision making skills shocked me -all things considered. She really just made some dumbass choices, was stubborn to the point of ridiculous, and was way too quick to take off rather than hearing everything that was going on first. It came across as a toddle stomping their feet when they don't get their way, more than once I found myself rolling my eyes at her. But in the end I still enjoyed the book, it held my attention right from the beginning and I would recommend it to anyone who likes an intense read laced with some darkness and a smatter of erotica.

'I need to feel your body on me, I need to feel you inside me. I need to feel alive again, and only you can do that to me. Please, Gabe. Bring me back to life.”

I am married and have a teenage son. I live in the Atlanta, GA area and I enjoy reading and writing. I went to bed one night after reading a book that wasn't very good and thought to myself, " I can do better than that." So the next morning I got up and started pounding away at the keyboard. My first book hides in the bowels of my laptop collecting dust. My first published novel, Running from Destiny, released in October of 2013. The sequel, Accepting Destiny just released in January 2014. My newest release is Reprisal - A Dark, Erotic Thriller. All books are Mature adult and recommended for ages 18 and up only.
