and Claire. The men were going into business together and relocating with their families to
the beautiful tropical paradise. It was a dream come true for the longtime friends.
But, when feelings are revealed and temptation takes control, one friendship turns from
lust to love and no one can walk away unscathed.
And, one person's ultimate decision leaves everyone lost and devastated.

~this review may contain minor spoilers~

I could stay here forever with you. You have my heart, Kaye. You always have.”

I cannot lie, as I write this review, I am a hott-mess. This book has me torn in so many different directions, my heart is still racing after that goddamn ending....
Before I go any further in this review, I have to warn you...

~this book is largely about cheating and the emotions/consequences involved. There is no denying that, the author doesn't even try to-its in the blurb-please take that to heart. If you can look past that, than carry on. If you have major issues with reading about that, than maybe this book isn't for you. With that said, I hope you can look past it and give this book a try, but proceed with caution- It is an intensely emotional read. these characters will completely pull you under and drown you with their hopes, fears, guilt, and

I knew one day we would find each other. I'm just sorry it came so late.”

Kaye & Rob, Jake & Claire, have all been friends since college and are about to embark on a new chapter in their lives. The couples have moved both their families to the beautiful paradise of St. John where Rob & Jake have joined forces to start a business together. Everything seems to be working out beautifully, til spending so much time together causes two of the friends feelings to shift into something that could destroy everything. Acting on these feelings, while completely selfish and reckless, becomes seemingly unavoidable and when everything comes to light-secrets are revealed and lives are destroyed.

We are going to enjoy each day that is given to us. We are not going to worry about tomorrow or where all this is going. We love each other and want to be together. It will all be okay. I promise.”

I know, I know-vague much?! But honestly, this is one of those books you just have to take as it comes to really feel the emotions it forces out of you. I hated what Jake & Kaye were doing and yet-I understood their feelings....kinda. Rob I really wanted to feel terribly sad for and I did, but then.... The consequences for their actions reached far and wide and are so much worse than I was prepared for. My heart literally shattered for Jake and that ending left me with a not so silent scream on my tongue. I mean, seriously- WTF dude?! I read on the cover that this is based on 'true events' and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't very interested in hearing that story. In the end, if you can get past the cheating, I strongly urge you to give this book a try, it was quite powerful. Luckily for me, book two (Saving us) is already on my kindle when I read this, so I won't be reduced to crazed stalking after that ending. CM Hutton-you have ripped my heart out and stolen my sanity and I love you for it.

I have to have you, Kaye. I don't know how we can be together, but I want you to be mine...only mine.”
“Jake, you make me feel so good, so whole. I want you too, but it scares the living hell out of me.”

Title: Saving Us (Sequel to Paradise Taken)

Our love affair wasn't what everyone wanted it to be. It was raw and full of absolute joy
and unbelievable pain. My love for another woman had consumed me for years and now that Kaye was mine, I wasn’t ever letting her go. I knew the consequences of our affair would be devastating to our families, but I was too selfish to walk away.

My beautiful Kaye was having my baby and we were determined to get our happily ever
after....until one day, one event, one conversation threatened it all.

"I had to know what went wrong. My stomach was sick with grief and I didn't know what to do next or even how to help Kaye. I needed to get to her. It didn't matter what Rob or Claire thought. No one could stop me from going. I knew she needed me. I could feel it deep in my soul." - Jake

~fair warning, Do not proceed beyond this point if you have not read 'Paradise Taken'. Spoilers from book one up ahead. You have been warned.~

I'd loved her for so long that all I'd wanted to do was run away with her. She was the love of my life, and I would have done just about anything to save us.

Well, I am exhausted-reading both of these books back to back definitely weighed on my heart. I didn't think it was possible for 'Saving Us' to be quite as emotionally intense as 'Paradise Taken'. I. Was. Wrong. I really should have expected as much, especially with the way book one ended. This series has made me question everything I believe in. I should not be hoping for an HEA for Kaye & Jake, all things considered, and yet I was. They have been through sooo much lately, and yet they were the ones who started this whole mess. Things could have been handled so very differently, so many different ways, but here we are. They do love each other fiercely, of that I have no doubt, its just devastating how many people were hurt in the process.

It was unbelievable.
Kaye loved me.
Of course, we'd gone about it completely wrong. We were both married, and I shouldn't have pursued her the way I had, but after nearly twenty years of being in love with her, I couldn't keep it in any longer.

'Saving Us' picked up just a few months prior to the end of 'Paradise Taken', only this time the story is told entirely from Jake's POV. The affair has been exposed and everyone now knows about the baby that was a result of it. The ramifications of the affair are felt by everyone as two families are destroyed in one fell swoop. Not only to Jake & Kaye have to face up to the fact that they broke up their families, but they have to decide where they go from here and figure out how everyone can possibly move forward. It wont be easy, any relationship born from deception is bound to breed insecurity and trust issues.

Well, I guess we see how much we really trust each other, huh? That's what happens when two liars and cheaters get together. Our relationship is built on nothing but mistrust. Get the fuck out of here. Now.”

Along with the gut-wrenching sadness that book one evoked, this one introduces fear into the mix when Rob handles the affair in a way I never saw coming. Where I saw a side of him I wasn't particularly fond of before, I excused it as a man scorned... til now. It was amazing to me the lengths some people go to when they're hurt and somethings can just never be forgiven-no matter what the circumstances were leading up to it. We also get to spend a lot more time with the kids in this book and really saw how this was affecting them, and how they dealt with everything. And Claire?! That woman is truly amazing, they was she handles her new circumstances was awe inspiring, such a strong and caring woman-you really get a feel for her in this installment, something that was missing in the first book.

Kaye had always held my heart in her hands, even when she didn't know it, and the pressure of watching my kids fall apart was almost too much, but making love to her today and holding her now, reminded me why I was here.

Jake really burrowed his way into my heart this time around. Yes he was ass backward with the way he handled things at the beginning, before the affair started-hell all the way back to college, yes he should have told Kaye about his feelings twenty years ago and not while they were both married with families, but he knows all this already, he does feel extremely guilty and he is trying to do the right thing by Claire now by helping her in any way he can to start over. And he does love Kaye so very much, it was unfair to everyone involved, including himself, to be in a marriage he was unable to fully give himself over to. This series really does wreak havoc on your emotions, your heart, and your sanity. It is as beautiful as it is devastating and I was thrilled to see that Claire is going to be getting her own story. CM Hutton has most definitely turned me into a big-time fan with this unconventional love story and I cannot wait to see what she throws at me next.

Jake, I need you to trust me.”
“I told you I trust you. It's Rob I don't trust. You need to trust me too. I have a difficult road ahead with Claire.”
“I know, but
we'll be okay, right?”
“Yes, we will.”
