~I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review~
~this review contains minor spoilers~
Kidd is one of those men that makes you wet just by looking at him. Too bad he's such a self-righteous prick.
“Damn, you can't take your eyes off me. Can you? Why not just take a picture? It's better than the real thing anyway. Pictures don't fight you when you use them to get off.”
This book blew me away, I abso-friggin-lutely loved it, loved every damn thing about it. I read a lot, a lot, all kinds of different genres, I'll try anything once, but fluff drives me nuts, my go to books are always a little on the seedy side, and this book was a prime example of why-it checked off everything I look for in a go to book, you know, that one genre that your ALWAYS in the mood for no matter what (plus, hey-it's Bikers! I go crazy for them). Angst? Uh, yes please. Drama? Oh you better believe it. Rough, gritty and dirty? Check, Check, Double Check. Smokin' hott sex? * fans oneself * umm, oh yeah. A wide range of characters to either love or hate with very little gray area? So sooo many in here. But beyond all the violence and grime is a layer of loyalty and a sense of family that weaves itself into everything they do and this book most certainly had that too.
“I understand more than you think. I understand that your Dad gave you to Timmons, and your scared out of your fuckin' mind that he's gonna get his hands on you again, but you need to understand that I would never let that happen again. Never, Jenna. You are mine.”
Jenna, aka Ice, grew up in a motorcycle club with a drugged out mother and a father that barely acknowledges her existence, but that life is all she has ever know. One emotionally fueled decision turns the MC into a violent prison she has no hopes of escaping. Sixteen-years-old, raped, bloodied, and bruised, is how Chipper finds her and breaks her free after months of abuse.
“Come on, Darlin'. Climb on. Let's get you home.”
She shakes her head and looks up at me with tear filled eyes. “I don't have a home anymore.”
Her words cut me straight to the heart. “You do now.”
I've learned the hard way never to trust a man, but for some reason, Chipper makes me feel safe. That's something I haven't felt in a long time, not ever really.
Chipper takes her with him back to Big Clifty, home of the Renegade Sons MC, claims her as family and moves her in with him and his old lady. It doesn't take her long to form a bond with Chipper and Mindy, they are the first people ever in her life to care for her like a family and show her the kind of love she has so desperately needed. Even though she has learned through experience not to trust men, she trusts Chipper with with her life and when she meets his younger brother, Kidd, she feels drawn to him. They become best friends and even though she has a raging crush on him, she does her best to hide it-he's almost ten years older than her, looks at her like a kid, and doesn't try to hide his many hook-ups with club whores.
“That girl has been hung up on you since she first got here. You may have thought of her as a kid, but you were every bit as hung up on her. I always knew that once she grew up, you would claim her. She's yours, and you're hers. Just make sure that you do it the right way.”
Kidd has been hooked on Jenna from the minute she showed up at the club with his older brother, but because she is so young, he fights and denies his feelings, burying them in every woman he can get his hands on. Watching her grow into a woman makes it harder and harder to fight his attraction, he has no choice but to hold out til she's eighteen and then he is free to claim her.
“I wanted you so damn bad, but you were only seventeen. You can't imagine how hard it was to keep my hands off you.”
But one night, several glaring mistakes and painfully stupid comments later, Jenna is lost to him. When it comes time to take her place in the club, Jenna has a choice to make-become an old lady or a club whore. With her trust in men shattered, she decides to takes up residence on her back, whoring is all she's good for anyway right?
She's not a fuckin' whore, and I never said she was. I may have said shit to make her think that, but I sure in the hell didn't feel like she was anything other than the woman I wanted as my own. I wanted her more than anything in this world. I know I fucked up with Jenna, but I have to damn idea how to fix it. After the night I was an idiot, she hasn't given me the time of day.
“She needs space to come to terms with her own feelings. If you don't give her that space, you gonna lose her forever.”
“I'll give her space, all the fuckin' space she needs. But one way or another, she'll be mine someday.”
As the years pass, Kidd's feeling for Jenna only become stronger, but she has turned into an ice queen and won't even talk to him. Jealousy and frustration fills his every day life, no amount of women take it away, and he's now at his end. He is club president, ha can do whatever the hell he wants, and what he wants is to claim Jenna once and for all....whether she likes it or not. The question is, will he finally be able to melt the ice wall surrounding her heart or will he push her too far?
“What are you doing, Kidd?”
“I'm claiming my girl. You're mine, Jenna. You've been mine since the day you walked in the club house, and I'm about to prove it to you.”
This book firmly held my attention right from the beginning. There was just so many people to fall for and finding out their stories became necessary. Jenna and her totally screwed up past broke my heart but she never lets it break her. She grabs life by the balls, puts on her bitch hat and forges on, I just loved her fire. Kidd's frustration jumped off the page, you start to feel bad for him and even though he screwed up royally, you can't help but hope that Jenna will forgive him one day. Chipper was a giant teddy bear, albeit, a crass sometimes violent one, you could feel how much he cared for Jenna. Mindy....well, she very much reminded me of my own mother, just an amazing woman. Reese, Timber, and Daisy also stole a piece of my heart and I cannot wait to see whats next for them. This series is off to one helluva start and I'm already dying for more.
“Baby girl, you need to get this straight in that thick head of yours. This is not gonna end. You're mine, you'll be mine tomorrow, and you'll still be mine twenty years from now.”
