After 12 years, 4 months and 1 and 1/2 weeks of marriage, his wife packs up and leaves with their daughter. So he writes an Indie novel. And it becomes a bestseller. Well, sort of.

His fame brings him the lifestyle of a rockstar, and he has the fan mail (i.e. female undergarments, probably clean) to prove it.

But seeing his fame, his wife suddenly believes in marriage counseling. Their homework: to create something beautiful for each other.

So he writes Our Story, his literary secret-weapon that will win his wife back. But in the process he discovers that true love is more than just ticking the right boxes on a checklist. It starts with... well... }i{ .

Note: the f-word is used 231 times in various formats throughout this story. Read with caution.

I started to wonder about my own, personal definition of love. Had it been wrong? Had it been the cause of my misery all of these years? Was it possible that I had somehow adopted a skewed version along the way?

Ok, I'm just gonna go ahead and say it...That. Was. Brilliant! How has this guy managed to skip below my radar before now?! Pure friggin genius. I know I'm gushing just a little bit right now but I can't really help it, and I just can't seem to care, this Author has turned me into a gushing fangirl and I'm totally ok with that. This book cannot be boxed into a single category-there was plenty of humor, being told completely from Morgan's POV was often hilarious. There was angst, bitterness, frustration and desperation, but there was also growth and acceptance. Underneath it all, there was a beautiful, yet heartbreaking, story of love that maybe just wasn't meant to be.

I decided on fiction because I figured the past 12 years of my marriage had been all make-believe anyway, which meant I had some decent first-hand experience with making shit up.

After 12 years, 4 months, and 1 ½ weeks of marriage, Morgan's wife Jennifer (not ME!), aka Princess Bitch, packs up their four year old daughter Evelyn and leaves without so much as a forwarding address. For two months she vanishes without a trace leaving Morgan broken and alone, missing her and their daughter. With nothing but time on his hands he decides to write a book to help fill the loneliness and keep his mind off how much he misses his family. His book 'Sextual Encounters' ends up being a huge hit and once he makes it onto Amazon's bestsellers list, Princess Bitch decides they should try marriage counseling.

Okay, I realize that, on paper, between my formal education in Accounting & Finance and my current career as a bestselling and brilliant author I had no true qualifications in the realm of common sense, but if you didn't want to hurt someone, you had it in your control to not hurt them. So if she hated hurting me so much, why didn't she just move back into the house?

Living the rockstar life of an Amazon Bestselling Author, Morgan is starting to get lots of fan mail, including some (probably clean) panties. This is how he meets Emma, she lands in his life just when he needs it the most. He's lonely and desperately needs to get laid, but Emma's married and insists they not go there-though she apparently has no issues with being very dirty and flirty going so far as sending him nudie pictures....regularly (I'm just gonna go ahead and say it, Emma was a cock-tease). So friends they remain, though Morgan makes it no secret that he really wants to get her into bed.

Assholes like Walter fucked things up for all of us. I felt like calling him and thanking him for my inability to get laid this weekend. But then again, it was his wife that I wanted to fuck, so maybe it was best that I keep that call to myself.

Morgan and Emma become really close friends and she's there for him as he goes through marriage counseling with the princess. As part of their counseling, they are given assignments which results in Morgan writing a book called 'Our Story' in an attempt to win back his wife. But he's torn, he wants to salvage his marriage-sort of, but the more he gets to know Emma the deeper his feeling become and the story he starts for Jennifer begins to morph into something else completely.

I was seriously in a state of mind right now where I was mourning the reality that she and I would never be together. It was impossible and it broke my heart, but at least I could still love her, I could still imagine what could have been.

This book really threw me in sooo many different directions. Morgan's wife really was a bitch and it made me wonder why he would ever even bother trying to save that relationship. Emma kinda pissed me off, I'm sorry, but she did. She wanted Morgan to want her and keep the hope of them alive, but flat out refused to ever leave her dead-end marriage behind. To me, she just came across really selfish. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, she just drove me nuts with her 'Queen of the mixed signals' crap. I get that she didn't want another failed marriage on her record but guess what lady? Your marriage is a failure ALREADY. Sorry...I'm done Lol. And while this book didn't exactly have an HEA per say, which usually drives me nuts, it worked for the book & it was what Morgan needed so I was happy...ish. I do hope he eventually finds his happiness, the guy needs it, along with some regular tail ;)

What I find on the screen makes me smile. It always does, because it tells me she's still looking for me and wants me to know it:

Sometimes, love brings us into the darkest corners of our lives. But we survive because love guides us through the fears and uncertainties. And other times, love brings us into the brightest sunshine, the most absolute happiness we will ever know.”

Ok, it's official-I am completely addicted to this Author. If you've already read non fric•tion (or even my review above) then you will know who Oliver & Olivia are, this is their story 'Our Story'. Sweet, tragic, pure and cut way too short.

Why did Olivia die? It was a touching scene at the hospital. Chapter 29, wasn't it? But it was a love story, and love stories don't end like that.”
How...? Do you...?”
Emma Payne. We went to high school together. I know everything Morgan.”

We actually start off checking in with Morgan when he meets a woman named Hope, an auditor checking on his firm. Hope knows all about 'Our Story' though it's never been published. Turns out, shes an old friend of dear Emma with a message for Morgan...
Before I go any further, I have to get this off my chest. Hope's additude towards Morgan pissed me right the frigg off. She lays into him about Emma, like it's his fault they are not together right now. Emma is the one who is married and has told Morgan time and again she will not leave her husband. Short of showing up on her doorstep, throwing her over his shoulder and kidnapping her, what the hell is he supposed to do?! Ok. Rant over. Moving on...
After Hope leaves Morgan with Emma's message, we dive into 'Our Story'.

Whether we deserve this or not, whether this turns out to be the darkest day of our lives or the brightest happiness, we've been guided by love. How can we go wrong when we're guided by love, Olivia?”

The love story of Oliver & Olivia is as sad as it's beautiful. They meet and fall in love, but they are both married at the time. Through the years, distance and circumstance may separate them, but their love for each other never waivers. Olivia eventually leaves her husband, but Oliver refuses to leave his wife until both of his kids are eighteen and off to college, that was the plan. The real tragedy of the story is, after all the years of loneliness and heartache, when they finally have the chance to be together and enjoy the love they have shared for so long, their time is cut short by circumstances beyond their control. Your left thinking about all that wasted time and all the hearts that get broken along the way, its just sad. But I'm glad we got to spend a little bit more time with them, they pulled at my heart in non fric•tion and this just makes them a little bit more real to me. I'm glad this brilliant author (Ha! Like that?) decided to treat us with this beautiful treasure....and I'm gushing again.

She squeezed him so tightly that she feared she might suffocate him, but she didn't care. If he died in her arms, she would die right there along with him because this embrace confirmed for her that her sole purpose for being here-not “here” as in Chicago, but “here” as in this life-was Oliver.
