From Tim O’Rourke, the # 1 bestselling author of the Kiera Hudson series, comes ‘Stilts’,... the first book in a new dystopian trilogy.

“…’Stilts’ is like ‘The Hunger Games’ meets ‘World War Z’…” C.J. Pinard, author of the bestselling ‘Enchanted Immortals’ series.

While eighteen-year-old, Tessa Dark was serving her prison sentence for murder, the world beyond her cell walls changed forever. The thunder came and destroyed the world she had once known.

Trapped inside the prison and faced with no future, Tessa’s only glimmer of hope is her friendship with fellow inmate Joe McBride.

Despite Tessa’s fear, Joe decides to go beyond the prison walls to seek help. But when he fails to return, Tessa is determined to go and search for him.

To gain her freedom, Tessa must first learn to walk, run, and fight on stilts if she is to survive the new and terrifying world on the other side of the prison walls.

‘Stilts’ - the first book in a new dystopian trilogy by #1 bestselling author Tim O’Rourke.

Lisa's Review:                    5, Ridiculously Happy For This Dystopian, Stars!!!!

"You look like a cross between Robo-cop and Handy Mandy." - Beau

"I couldn't help but wonder why he was in prison. What had been his crime? Bullshitting his victims to death?" - Tessa

Stilts is a magically delicious, edge of your seat, kind of book. Tim has once again amazed me with his talent at weaving a world in which I don't want to leave. I was immediately enthralled with Stilts from the first page. This book is about survival and reaching a common goal. A goal in which the characters have no idea what will be there once they reach it. Hope is what keeps them is all they have left. Hope that there is a future for the human race and a chance to be saved from the world which has changed into a burning nightmare. This book had my heart racing the whole way through. I became a silent and unseen character in the story...that is when you know how phenomenal a book is. When your own reality is replaced with the one the author has created. You become part of the book, but it is as if you are under a protective spell. You can not be seen, heard, or harmed. And thank God for that, otherwise I would probably be one of those nasty Scorchers, from Stilts, reaching through the computer trying to get you! The only thing that disappoints me about this first book in the series is that it is part of a trilogy. ONLY A TRILOGY!! TSK.TSK. That can not be. I have a strong feeling that Tim's fans will beg him to continue past the third book, myself included. I foresee this thrillogy ( I meant to write trilogy, but I think thrillogy is more fitting, so I am going to leave it) going onto a second series. It just has to. Stilts was freaking amazing an I am sad it is over... at least for now.

The male Scorcher  wore a faded and torn pair of dungarees. The soles of his boots had been fused to his feet with heat. His white beard was splattered with blood and looked like he had dropped gravy from his puckered mouth. His eyes were yellow and looked like two broken egg yolks. Just like the others, his skin was raw-looking and covered in multiple blisters.

Jenn's Review ***** 5 Scorching Stars
I had been brought to this place just before my thirteenth birthday.
The thunder came six months later and I hadn’t left the prison since.
Well, that was just....WOW. Tim O'Rourke never fails to amaze me and books like this one are the reason why he will forever remain at the top of my favorites list. All of his books have a completely unique feel to them, there's just nothing else like it. But what I love and find truly intriguing is, no matter what book or series your reading (and there are plenty to choose from) they all interweave in some way, shape, or form. Be it a character crossing over from another series or a town you know you've read about before, they all have some connection to each other and to me, that is some genius writing.
All sense of time had been swallowed up by the thunder.
Then the lightning came, followed by the rain.
The sky looked as if it was being torn apart as streaks of black lightning crackled and fizzed overhead. The rain came down so hard that it flooded the yard, mini waves sloshing against the prison walls.
'Stilts' is Book #1 in the Tessa Dark Trilogy.
At eighteen years old, Tessa has spent the last five years in prison for murder. During that time, the world outside the prison walls has been irrevocably changed and destroyed by the thunder. The location of the prison and it's towering walls is all that keep Tessa, her fellow inmates and guards safe from the world beyond. Like it or not, she's trapped there.
This is no longer a prison,” he had said. “This place is now your home. The sooner you accept that, the easier life will become. There will still be rules; every home has rules that need to be respected and obeyed. But a good home is somewhere you can be free, but most importantly, be safe.”
The only light in her dark world is the friendship she forms with fellow inmate, Joe McBride. But when Joe decides to venture outside the prison walls in search of help and the hope of others still alive, he leaves Tessa behind. Her only chances of survival on the outside depends on her ability to learn how to walk, run, and fight on stilts. She will do whatever it takes to find Joe again.
From start to finish this book had me in it's clutches. Non-stop action, gore, surprises, and the fight to survive. From chapter 14 til the very end, I was on the edge of my seat-I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and the ending just left me gasping for more. I can never get enough of Tim O'Rourke's writing. If you've never picked up one of his books I STRONGLY urge you to do so, it will be a ride you won't soon forget.
Our crimes, however brutal they had been, had now been wiped out by the thunder. They seemed insignificant to the destruction and death the thunder had bought with it.
