Extra, extra, read all about it: Zombies Invade London!
It has been thirty years since the Voodoo Queen plagued England with the zombie disease that has since swept the world. Humans have had to learn to function around them while the dead kill innocent people. The government continues its efforts to try to contain and find a cure for the problem.
However, by the cover of night, a man who hunts zombie, known only as Aeron, roams the streets in search of protecting the upright citizens from the flesh eating creatures. One foggy evening Lucille Knight becomes one of these people and Aeron’s interest is instantly peeked. A stubborn, feisty "lady" in this day in age? How challenging.
But Aeron will have a little competition when Miss. Knight meets Lord Garrett Ashdown, the son of Earl Thomas or a man better known as: The Inventor. A man who builds automatons for the direct purpose of killing zombies; mysteriously understanding their blood and the way they sense humans.
Lucy is taken by the masked man known as Aeron and the equally mysterious Lord Garrett. With one concealing his true identity and the other hiding a ghastly secret, she doesn’t know which one is less dangerous. What secrets do Aeron and Garrett keep from Lucy? Will Miss. Knight be able to be with the man she chooses when she learns the awful truth? It is still unclear. And the current edition isn’t spilling the beans just yet…

I absolutely adored this book!! It combined two of my very favorite things, Zombies and romance, with the added bonus of steampunk (a recent addition to my addictions list) thrown in. Funny, charming, sweet yet bloody, a brilliant debut for this author.
I went down Dead End Road...literally.
With my back against the fence, I stared through my strands of shoddy raspberry-colored hair and into the dead faces before me.
Ten of them. Slow and stupid, but large in numbers.
Imagine if you will-your living in London during the Victorian era but the Zombie Apocalypse is already upon us and living among the undead is your normal, everyday life. Everything you do revolves around protecting yourself and those you love from the virus flooding the streets with flesh-eating Zombies. Getting bitten by one turns you into one and their numbers seem to be increasing everyday. This is the world Miss Lucille Knight was born into.
Thirty years since the zombie apocalypse and sixteen years since my birth meant I had grown up knowing what should and should not be done. Yet here I was.
Zombies are what took her mother away from her, she was forced to learn to take care of herself at a young age and she knows the kinds of situations to avoid. But Lucy tends to be a bit reckless and that is how she meets the mysterious zombie hunter, Aeron.
My blood pumped with fright while I pounded against the body holding me, afraid I had been captured by another type of monster. Arms grasped me closer as if I was Hades captor, Persephone, and we were crossing through to the underworld.
“Stop that or I'll toss you back to be food.”
...I was being rescued by some pale stranger with long black hair hiding behind a mask.
“You are such a disappointment as a woman.”
He sighed heavily as if bored with me. “I am met with hostility even though I saved your life.”
“How dare you! What is your name? I shall make it a sin to be spoken.”
“Aeron, and please make my name a sin to speak. You are a ghastly mess and should be taught proper manners.”
Their first meeting doesn't exactly go smoothly. She's embarrassed that she put herself in a situation where she needed to be rescued in the first place and she finds him quite annoying when he points that fact out. He see's her as an ungrateful, unpleasant, stubborn woman who manages to keep getting herself in trouble...yet he can't seem to stay away from her. When Lucy least expects it Aeron appears literally out of nowhere and the more she encounters him, the more intriguing she finds him.
“You are so stubborn. I would find it endearing if you only did it as foreplay.”
“Then I should try harder so you stop coming around.”
He touched my arm, his lips grazing my ear. “I believe I have found a new hobby.”
“You shouldn't be so close. It isn't proper.”
Aeron stayed exactly where he was. “Humor me and ask me what it is.”
“What is this new hobby of yours?”
“Irritating you.” A huge grin grew from ear to ear as he finally gave me room.
My jaw dropped and I glared at him. “You are awful!”
“Yes, I believe I am. But you deserve it.”
Just when she thinks her life couldn't get any more confusing she meets Lord Garrett Ashdown, son of the man they call 'The Inventor'. His family is responsible for creating the automatons used in everyday life as well as the ones used to kill and defend them against the zombies. And he has suddenly shown an intense interest in Lucy.
The confusion he cast upon me was horrible. At times, he was so audacious while at others, he behaved like riffraff.
Garrett chuckled. “Oh Lucy.” He brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear. “If you weren't in the least jealous, I wouldn't think you are interested in me at all.”
Lucy is confused about her feelings and torn between the two men, but untrusting of their intentions as well. She has been burned recently by an ex-fiance, very publicly and in the most humiliating way possible. The sting of betrayal is still very present and makes her overly cautious and a bit fearful of putting her heart out there again.
“What's the matter, Lucy? I thought you would be happy after the spectacular night you were having with Lord Garrett.”
“It's not that I am unhappy, it is that I am suspicious. He became interested in me so fast that I can't help but wonder why.”
“Love from one side hurts, but love from both sides heals. Why not risk your heart and believe this man is not out to wrong you?”
“Because I have not decided if the pain is worth that particular risk.”
With the help of her feisty best friend Emily, she has to decide between the hunter who hides behind a mask and the cover of night, or the outspoken Lord whose family has an unnerving understanding of zombies. All while keeping her father happy and fighting to stay alive and uninfected.
From page one this book jumps right into action and doesn't stop. Descriptive enough that you can clearly 'see' whats going in the world that’s being created before your eyes without being drug out. Characters that pull you into the story and keep you guessing with an ending that wasn't exactly a cliffhanger but definitely leaves you thirsting for more. I just loved everything about it and cannot wait to see where this author takes us next.
“A love that's formidable, revenge that must be taken and a voodoo queen that roots fear in the hearts of the innocent-all while zombies eat people.”
