Interview with Rico of Body & Soul by Jamie Loeak

Kismet-
Well hello Rico, welcome. Thank you so much for coming to Sparring Stepsisters Sparring Room…

Rico
Thanks; its definitely different, never experienced sparring ring for an interview before.

Kindred
So you are the main character for Body & Soul; what can you tell us about the book?

Rico
The book is a story about Kate, who means the world to me, but she has also captivated several demons. My way of life has allowed me to watch over humans, but when it comes to Kate, there is no need for reason. She has me enthralled and even more so when she finds out what I am.

Kismet
Sounds intense! How do you deal with the no touching rule; I mean if it was me, well couldn’t find of a better way leaving this Earth.  *Winks*

Rico
You flatter me Kismet; however, as a demon, I have no soul. That which keeps you ladies warm and hearts beating is your soul. This vessel is nothing but a husk that secures my immortality.  I am frozen and this is why Kate and I cannot touch for my freezing skin lowers her temperature, making her hypothermic, which would lead to her death.

Kindred
Wow! That just isn’t fair but is it worth it?

Rico
It isn’t fair but yes it’s worth it. She has allowed me to feel something that I have never felt before and I wouldn’t change that.

Kismet
Seriously, do not care if you don’t have a soul, because you are better than most humans I’ve known. *Shrugs* How do you deal with the fact that you can’t express yourself freely?

Rico
Thanks Kiz. Truth is, it was difficult in the beginning and I tried to stay away. My purpose is to protect souls not engage with them but with Kate, I just couldn’t. She has me mesmerized by her stunning beauty and her kind nature and decency. Try as I may, she makes it all worth it.

Kindred
Honestly I just don’t get it? How do you not have a soul?

Kismet
Who needs a soul? Wow, just wow.

Rico
(*Smiles*) You’re too kind, really. Do you have any other questions?

Kindred
How would you describe Kate’s personality?

Rico
Kate is hardheaded and very independent and strives to secure the persona of self-reliance. She is also a free spirit who is entertaining and courageous. In the end, she is pure and good, as well as, compassionate about those around her.

Kismet
Are there any other characters we should know about?

Rico
Adriana, she is everything to me.

Kismet
(Interrupts) Excuse Me? (*Hands on her hips*)

Rico
She is, but in a platonic way. Seriously, she and I have never been romantically involved; however, she is still everything to me. She believed I was more than I saw myself and saw the good when no one else did. Her conviction and loyalty was what I needed and it kept me sane in my existence.

Kismet
Right! No Romance huh? (*Raises a brow*)

Kindred
Moving on. What should we expect in the future?

Rico
Hmm… the truth is I go on a journey and I’m in search of the answers to the questions that were left in the first book.

Kismet
And? Did you find the answers?

Rico
You’re just going to have to wait and find out.

Kindred & Kismet
‘Aww man!’ (Turned to look at each other)

Kismet
“Jinx! You owe me ketchup!”

Kindred
Damn it!

Rico
Ketchup?

Kindred
It’s an inside joke. Well, we would love to thank you for taking the time to do this interview and wish you the best with Kate.

Kismet
Yes definitely and please tell Kate to layer her clothes.

Rico
(Laughs) Okay I will send her your message Kismet. Bye ladies and thank you for having me in your sparring room and I rather enjoyed the interview.

Kismet & Kindred
(Fanning themselves) Bye!
